Adam McKay's Netflix’s newest movie Don’t Look Up hits the nail on the head in portraying how ignorant society is with regards to addressing a world disaster.
In the comedy-drama, Jennifer Lawrence plays astronomer Kate Dibiasky, who discovers that a massive comet is heading against Earth and is going to kill us all. Alongside her professor Dr. Randall Mindy, performed via Leonardo DiCaprio, she tries to warn the White House and the world about this forthcoming and time-sensitive risk.
But when BASH Cellular CEO (suppose Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos all mixed into one!) discovers that this planet-killing comet is rife with minerals that can be mined for profit, the mission to avoid wasting planet Earth is off and the venture to make the rich even richer is on.
By this level, Dr. Mindy, who has been coined the country's sexiest scientist, simply performs along, as there in point of fact is not much left that he can do. He stars in a central authority PSA that provides a phone number for folks to name for "peace of mind" as the comet and their loss of life looms closer.
A few curious Don't Look Up viewers in fact dialed the phone number in the movie to look if it used to be real. And while it did not lead to a comet reinforce helpline, it did result in one thing. Keep scrolling to find out.
The BASH "Peace of Mind" phone number is in reality a Hot Singles in Your Area phone number.
"Right now, millions of you are having these same doubts and questions about the approaching comet. That is why BASH Cellular, in conjunction with the United States government, is creating a new hotline, free of charge, to answer all of your questions. And who knows: Maybe, just maybe one of our scientists ... can be that friend we all need to lean on during uncertain times," Dr. Mindy says all over the business.
The phone number is also flashed on the display screen, as a narrator says, "Call 1-800-532-4500 for peace of mind. Offer only available to BASH customers. Details of your call may be shared with other subsidiaries to enhance your future customer experience. Data and roaming charges apply."
A couple of users on Twitter if truth be told determined to punch those numbers into their phones to learn that it is an actual hotline ... designed to fulfill hot singles.
The hotline, in actual life, is replied via a girl's voice that claims, "Welcome to America's hottest hotline. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you. Press 1 now. Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press 2 to connect free now."
People mag reached out to Netflix to be informed whether or not the inclusion of the phone number was once intentional or now not, but the platform didn't reply.
So, used to be the BASH phone number a hidden Easter Egg in 'Don't Look Up?'
Unfortunately, Netflix has not confirmed whether or no longer the phone number was used in the film on objective. However, there is a just right chance it was.
Think about it. This isn't Netflix's nor Adam McKay's first rodeo. We're speaking a couple of team of seasoned film pros who are likely accustomed to the pointers for dropping digits in a movie. Not to mention, the number is going to an oddly explicit and lively phone line. If they sought after a faux number, they may have simply found one.
But, if for some reason every 10 digit mixture in life in some way correlated with a phone number in actual lifestyles, they could have tweaked the PSA to delete the phone number or instead, presented otherwise (like a chatbot or app) for concerned electorate to seek lend a hand.
Regardless, this hilarious feat further strengthens the film's message that most other folks tend to leave out the point on the subject of essential matters.
Because for somebody to have dialed this throughout Don't Look Up, it both manner they're a detail-oriented master sleuth extraordinaire who enjoys moderately dissecting movies scene through scene. Or they're any individual who did not notice the film used to be fiction and was once in search of some lend a hand processing their comet trauma.
Don't Look Up is now streaming on Netflix.
