Godwin the Kingmaker Is More Powerful Than the King in 'Vikings: Valhalla' (SPOILERS)
Who is Godwin of Wessex in the Netflix sequence 'Vikings: Valhalla'? In some ways, he's even more powerful than the king that he serves.

As any Game of Thrones fan is aware of, oftentimes the kingmakers are more powerful than the monarchs they serve. Such is the case with Godwin (David Oakes) in Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix.
We first meet Godwin in Vikings: Valhalla Season 1. Seemingly unswerving to King Æthelred (Bosco Hogan) and Æthelred's son, Edmund II (Louis Davison), Godwin pulls a quick one by means of tricking them into believing a Viking invasion is on the horizon.
It's simply the first of many times Godwin manipulates those in power so he can upward thrust to glory.

You could liken Godwin to Littlefinger in Game of Thrones — cunning and keen to play somebody on each side in order to get what he needs. Case in point: While outwardly it seemed as though he was once loyal to Æthelred and Edmund, Godwin in fact orchestrates Edmund's premature demise so he can get Canute (Bradley Freegard) on the throne of England as an alternative.
Godwin's need to continue to exist and thrive stems from his previous — his father used to be found in charge of committing crimes towards the reigning monarch at the time. The problem with the loss of due procedure is that you can lose the whole thing should you get on a monarch's bad facet.
Sadly, Godwin's father learned that the laborious means, which led to Godwin becoming determined to construct a greater long run for himself, regardless of how devious he had to be in order to get there.
Godwin has extraordinarily lofty ambitions.
Godwin helps to keep his dating with Emma's lady-in-waiting, Aelfwynn, a secret in Vikings: Valhalla Season 2. However, he is very open with his secret love about his final goal — to have his own youngsters take a seat upon the throne of England. (How very House of the Dragon of him!)
However, in order for Godwin's dream to be learned, he has to kill considered one of his greatest benefactors — Queen Emma (Laura Berlin).
But Emma is no fool. She eventually figures out that it was once Godwin himself that was once at the back of her assassination try in Season 2.
So how does Emma play Godwin? By using his one weak point towards him: his hatred for his father.
Turns out Emma found Godwin's father's ring, a logo of the very past that Godwin tried so laborious to spoil. In a very good power play, Emma gifts the ring to Godwin's spouse, Gytha (Henessi Schmidt), without explaining the context in the back of the ring's significance.
Although Godwin is one step closer to the throne thanks to his marriage to Gytha, now he has to watch his personal back. Emma is on to him, and her gift to Gytha signifies to Godwin that she is not to be messed with.
Will Godwin succeed in his final goal in Vikings: Valhalla? We'll have to watch for Season Three to determine more. In the period in-between, you'll flow Vikings: Valhalla Seasons 1 and a pair of on Netflix.
